My total to 16th Jan is 106 mm.
My average (1985-2015) for January is 111 mm.
So with no blocking this coming week, the total for January is going to be well above average.
Will have to go some to beat the 199 mm of 2014 though.

January rainfall (1st - 16th) up to 67 mm here Len, so a bit wetter than my estimated average of 41 mm for the same period.
But despite the rain it has been a rather sunny January so far with 66 hours of the lovely, bright warm stuff. That's around 57% of the total possible so definitely in the 'sunny' category.
January 2014 was wet here too with 195 mm! The wettest of any month I have recorded since before May 2005.

With my rain total up to 163 mm to 24th Jan, there is a possibility now of beating the total of 199 mm in 2014.
Rain forecast over the next day or two may well be above 30 mm.

Up to the 27th my rainfall total is now 109 mm, so rather above my estimated average of 82 mm for January as a whole.
Rainfall for the last 96 hours was 6.0 mm, so we missed pretty much all of the deluges experienced in the rest of the South West.
Monthly mean temperature rising as well, now at 6.8°C and 90 hours of sunshine.

... up to 28/0900Z, our total = 167 mm (~194% of eLTA 1981-2010)
Nearby Hurn, up to 28/1800Z = 179 mm, already placing this January as second-wettest such-named month in their 1957+ record.
With at least another 10 mm (probably more) to come in the next couple of days, the total looks set to approach, but probably not exceed, the exceptionally wet January of 2014 with 247 mm.
Martin.

It was very very close to being the wettest January in my record back to 1985.
Total this month was 198.0 mm.
178 % of average.
In 2014 it was 198.7 mm.
So within measurement error, Jan 2016 was as wet as Jan 2014.
Measurements made with a standard 5 inch copper gauge.

This January ended up with 113.6 mm (126% of my eLTA). That is way down on January 2014 (the wettest of any month) with 195 mm.
It seems that the Dartmoor rainfall shadow was more pronounced this time, probably due to the rain coming in from a SW to WSW direction (lee of Dartmoor) rather than a southerly as it did in January 2014.
All measurements are from my standard 5" Casella rain gauge.
