Re: A wet January

It was very very close to being the wettest January in my record back to 1985.
Total this month was 198.0 mm.
178 % of average.

In 2014 it was 198.7 mm.

So within measurement error, Jan 2016 was as wet as Jan 2014.

Measurements made with a standard 5 inch copper gauge.

Re: A wet January

With my rain total up to 163 mm to 24th Jan, there is a possibility now of beating the total of 199 mm in 2014.
Rain forecast over the next day or two may well be above 30 mm.

A wet January

My total to 16th Jan is 106 mm.
My average (1985-2015) for January is 111 mm.

So with no blocking this coming week, the total for January is going to be well above average.
Will have to go some to beat the 199 mm of 2014 though.

Increasing annual rainfall

The annual rainfall for 2015 in Wembury was 1071.1 mm, which was very close (102%) to the 2001-2015 average. However the graph for 2001-2015 shows an increasing trend. The standard deviation is +/- 156 mm which gives a measure of expected variability about the average. The magnitude of the trend wit...

Re: A mild December

My December figures are as below. The anomalies are with respect to 2001-2015 averages. Mean max temp 12.8°C (+3.1 degC) Mean min temp 9.7°C (+5.1 degC) Mean temp 11.2°C (+4.1 degC) The title of this thread has ended up a bit of an understatement. 'Exceptionally warm December' might have been more a...

Re: December 2015 - Windiest Month

This December is the windiest month I have recorded (starting May 2005) with a wind run so far (up to 12:00 on the 30th Dec) of 6342 miles. The previous windiest month was February 2014 with 4844. So, along with temperature, this December completely trounces the previous record. The windiest day al...

Re: December 2015 - 'Warm & Dry'

My max temperature for this mild spell occurred at about the same time. 2200 GMT on 19th Dec. when it reached 15.0°C. This did not beat my all time highest max for December which was 15.8°C in 1985. This was however on 2nd Dec. so this present figure for 19th is truly remarkable for being so late in...

Re: Autumn rainfall record

It is certainly true Paul that autumn in year 2000 distorts the trend somewhat. The linear fit trend line gives a magnitude increase of 44 mm over the period. The natural yearly variability about the mean (as given by the standard deviation) is 76 mm. So from a statistical point of view, the trend i...

Autumn rainfall record

I attach a graph for my autumn (SON) rainfall record in Wembury 1985-2015.
There is a natural yearly variability of 76 mm as calculated from the standard deviation.
