The weather of the first half of the first month of 2016 has made a welcome change from the persistent southwesterlies that occurred through most of November and December.
January so far has been sunny and wetter than normal and with around average temperatures.
1st - 16th:
Mean maximum = 10.0°C
Mean minimum = 2.7°C
Mean = 6.4°C
Rain = 67.1 mm
Sunshine = 66.3 hours.
This has been one of the sunniest starts to January in my record (since 2006).
The lowest maximum temperature occurred yesterday with just 6.6°C making it the coldest day since 6.2°C on the 6th February last year. The really cold weather just to the east doesn't seem to have made it here and so far this has been a snowless winter.

Re: 1st to 16th January 2016 - Sunny and Wet
Here January carried on much like November and December, up until Wednesday when it was a special day……
It was the first time since the 5th of November last year that I was able to enter 0.0mm in the rainfall column at the 0900 observation. This is 75 days of at least some rain.
In that time there were:
Trace 2 days or 3%
0.2mm 3 days or 4%
>10mm 31 days or 41%
>20.0mm 11 days or 15%
The total was 791mm (31.1”) at an average of 10.5mm/day.
So with that simple 0.0 and a completely blue sky there is a general uplift of spirits all round.
Now last night another very mild pulse with 15.6C at 0300Z.
