As with June this July is turning out to be another fairly warm but rather humid month. And as with June, sunshine levels are still suffering. All days have been easily over 20°C but there have been no really warm days with the warmest being only 23.9°C (8th).

Despite the forecast of cool, cloudy conditions for Sidmouth, today was another warm (maximum 22.4°C) and humid day (DP 17.4°C) with lengthy sunny intervals after a cloudy start. And after that very wet June, this month so far has been quite dry and my sandy-soiled garden is becoming very dry once more.

Quite a few days with extremely high UV (+9.0) last week and many of my chillie plants in the garden have suffered from scorching of the leaves, as has the grass.

Mean minimum = 13.0°C
Mean maximum = 21.7°C
Mean = 17.4°C
Rain = 3.6 mm
Sunshine = 65 hours.

... further east of you, the 'warmth' isn't really showing up as yet: the average maximum temperature is around -2C on the LTA - the humidity is offsetting lack of really warm days though. As to rainfall, although everyone is complaining about the (apparent) dampness, since the last 'significant' rainfall on the 19th June (13 mm), we've had a total of just 25 mm in dribs and drabs. The garden is not really benefitting from this rain as all it does is linger on the leaves for a bit then evaporate-off steadily without adding much to the soil moisture. Garden watering is at a maximum!

Martin, I'm surprised your LTA maximum is running at -2°C!

My very estimated LTA has my maximum temperature anomaly at +0.6°C.

Today was definitely not a warm day and the first day this month not to acheive at least 20°C with a maximum of 19.1°C, making it the coldest day since the 29th June. It also rained, all of 1.0 mm. But the sun has managed to shine on and off for much of the afternoon to compensate.

The last significant rainfall here was on the 20th June with 10.8 mm.

Forecast is looking better for later this week; could this be the start of summer-proper for us here in the deep south?

... as of yesterday / 12th, the Hurn average maximum temperature is 20.2degC: the LTA (from actual data) for 1971-2000 = 21.9degC (-1.7C) and for 1981-2010 = 22.1degC (-1.9C).

For my own (highly sheltered) site, and using estimated data, the current mean Tx = 21.5degC as against an estimated LTA for 1971-2000 = 23.3degC (-1.8C) and against eLTA 1981-2010 = 23.5degC (-2.0C).

So far for July to 13th:
Mean max 18.9°C (30 yr July average 19.9°C)
Mean min 12.7°C (30 yr July average 13.3°C)

Dryish though with only 15.4 mm so far.

My mean maximum temperature (1st - 14th) now at 21.5°C (+0.5°C) though a few cold nights for the time of year recently have brought the mean temperature down to just below my eLTA at -0.2°C.

Now very dry in the garden with only 4.6 mm of rain.

A slight recovery in the sunshine lately with the total now up to 92 hours.

I drove from Hatherleigh to home this afternoon and the car themometer started off at a rather cool 17°C and stayed that way until west of Exeter then it warmed to 20°C and rose again to 22°C past Tedburn St Mary. By Sandy Gate roundabout it was 24°C and when I reached home it was 23°C. This is typical of the temperature profile when I do that journey during the late Spring through to early Autumn. Devon seems to have many 'climates' but the warmth (and sunshine) of the coastal hinterland between Exmouth and Seaton is very noticeable.

You are just that little bit more sheltered in a westerly airstream where you are compared with Wembury.
It shows in slightly higher maxes.

The warm, dry and muggy theme of this July continues unabated.

Despite the promise of rain (again), nothing fell today (again) and the monthly total (gauge not TBR) still stands at 4.5 mm.

The high humidity has been so characteristic of this month (and the summer so far) and today is no exception with a maximum temperature of 25.3°C and a dewpoint at the same time of 20.5°C.
