Re: Early May 2016 - Missing the rains

With another 2.0mm in the gauge this morning, I have now reached 50.9mm for May so far, just about the estimated LTA for the whole month. Interestingly, this now exceeds the total I recorded last December (which had record-breaking rainfall in the NW, but was actually drier than average in the SE). ...

Re: Early May 2016 - Missing the rains

We missed the rain here in Farnborough until last night. Then the heavens opened. There was 30.1mm in my gauge this morning, and most of that fell between 0200-0800 (BST).
The garden needed a good soaking, though - it was very dry.

26.5C was the max at Farnborough today. Sunny most of the day but some patchy high cloud. Fresh breeze from ESE.
Also dry: the dewpoint at the time of the max temp was 10.8C giving an RH of 38%

Re: April chill

April 1-25, Farnborough: Mean Max: 13.8C Mean min: 4.1C Mean: 9.0C All three figures are exactly equal to the estimated long term average figures! But as the temperature for the final 5 days of the month will almost certainly be below these figures, the month will finish slightly colder than average...

Re: Are Springs getting coolder?

I remember cold springs in the 70s (when I lived in Sheffield) and this is born out by your graph - over 20 years below the mean with a couple of exceptions. I remember that in the 70s early winter was typically mild, and a white Easter was more likely than a white Christmas!

Re: A cold March?

March did end up colder than normal but only by 0.5C (mean max 10.4C, mean min 2.1C, mean 6.3C). So it was warmer than January and February but of course a lot colder than December with its record-breaking 10.8C. I recorded 9 air frosts. It was the first month colder than normal since September. Rai...

Re: A cold March?

For Farnborough, March 1-18: Mean max 9.3C Mean min 0.8C Mean 5.1C (estimated -1.7C compared to the LTA). I think it will a close thing as to whether March makes it as the coldest month of the winter period. The February mean (the next coldest month) was 5.3C. It does look like the weather may get s...

A cold March?

Today's outlook from the Met Office: "UK Outlook for Sunday 6 Mar 2016 to Sunday 20 Mar 2016: On the whole, cold and changeable conditions look to dominate through the period. Spells of wet and windy weather are likely as frontal systems push in from the Atlantic, but there should also be periods of...

Big change in January

Here in Farnborough, I only recorded 44.6mm in December (from a slightly over-sheltered rain gauge). Rain fell on 24 days but was light. In January, I have already reached 20mm in three days! Heavy spells of rain both yesterday and today. It has also been noticeably colder. In December, every day re...

Re: A mild December

Min temp here at Farnborough on the 26th (00-00) was 13.1C (this is 0.7C above the average July min!) Mean max temp for Dec (1-26): 13.1C Mean min temp for Dec (1-26): 8.7C Mean temp for Dec (1-26): 10.9C Certainly in the record-breaking territory for warmth! But no unusual rainfall here in the SE. ...
