Re: 17th January - Rain in an Anticyclone

Dry here after early morning (before I got up) drizzle. Only 0.6 mm.

Cloudy all day with a rather thin layer of stratus. Max 9°C.

It seems Nick that you drew the short straw today.

Re: Snow??

We are now half way through winter Greg, so there is still a chance of snow. We had some sleet mixed in with the rain on Thursday. I have a feeling that may be as near to snow as we get here on the SW Devon coast. Nothing on the charts to indicate snow here in the next few days. As regards long term...

The Snowdon 5 inch copper rain gauge

Does anyone know, maybe Stephen, when the Snowdon 5 inch copper raingauge was accepted as standard in the UK? Someone asked me the other day during a discussion of rainfall records. I know Symmonds was instrumental in trying to standardise rain measurement, but I am not sure when the 5 inch gauge wa...

Re: October 2016: Near-Record Dry in Stornoway & Sunny

Edward,
it would have been a record dry October here if there had not been a deluge (49 mm) which came on 24/25th, caused by a depression moving up from France.
Total for the month ended up as 78.6 mm, 70% of average since my record began in 1984.

Re: Summer temperature trend

The longterm Plymouth record is broadly in agreement with your indices Martin. There is a small longterm warming trend shown by the black dotted line. The record is smoothed by 10 yr running means shown in red. Three periods of relatively warm summers show up. Just like your graphs, there is a small...
