Re: Frosty January

20 air frosts now for January. Mean min -0.7C
Not sure we will get any more - last few days look mild. But the month will certainly finish with below average temperature.

Frosty January

Although January has disappointed in terms of snow (only some wet snow on Jan 12th/13th) it has excelled in terms of frost, at least here in Farnborough. The dominant high pressure has meant many clear and calm nights. Up to today (22nd) I have recorded 15 days with air frost (and as it is -2C now t...

Re: 17th January - Rain in an Anticyclone

Very different here in Farnborough. Wall to wall sunshine today, though cold, with a max of 5.0C after an early frost, and now already down to -1C. A welcome change after damp weather with persistent mainly light rain on Sunday and Monday.

Re: Snow??

I work in Godalming (Surrey) and it was snowing heaviliy when I left at 5pm on Thursday. However, where I live in Farnborough, it was just a dusting. Enough for "snow lying" on Friday but it soon melted.
Looks like cold and dry for the SE this week.

Snow??

Looking at the latest charts, I am quite hopeful of some snow, even for southern England. I'm not expecting much from the northerly outbreak Thurs/Fri/Sat, not here in Farnborough anyway (will be a different story further north). Northerly winds are not good bringers of precipitation here, unless a ...

10/12 air frost days

Out of the last 12 days (December 26th-January 6th), I have recorded 10 air frosts. Only Dec 31st and Jan 1st failed to record a temperature below zero. There were no extremely low temperatures in that period (the lowest in those 12 days was -3.4C on Jan 3rd) nor were the maximum temperatures unusua...

Re: Absolute Drought?

The month is still looking a dry one here in Farnborough - only 6.0mm so far (monthly mean LTA is 69mm). Reading University has only had 9.1mm. The cold front from Storm "Barbara" looks like it will bring some rain, but moving through quite quickly. The Christmas Day low looks like it will bring eve...

Absolute Drought?

Yesterday, December 7th, was my 15th consecutive day without measurable rainfall. This is what used to be called an "Absolute Drought", although, quite rightly, this definition has fallen into disuse. It all depends on the season and the rainfall around the 15-day dry period that counts. I recorded ...

2015/2016

What a difference a year makes! I have already had more air frost days (1) this December than in December 2015 (0). In fact after 4 sunny days and consecutive min temps of -3.3C, -5.4C and -4.7C, the ground is frozen hard.

Re: October 2016 - 1st - 12th Dry, sunny and warm

I have reached 35mm now, but that was thanks to 20mm falling between 0630 and 0930 on Sunday! 15.9C and 7.6C are my mean max/min, which are slightly below normal. Looks like the easterlies will be returning - perfect timing for a trip to Cumbria this weekend! Looking at Roger's website ("the month s...
