You could try one of Gemini Data Loggers TinyTag Plus loggers with an external sensor.

As long as you can house the datalogger in some form of shelter to protect it from the weather you could then log earth temperatures hourly.

Try 'The Weather Business, the full title was 'The Weather Business - Inside the Met Office. I've just checked, it does come up under 'Alll 4' catch up.

Apologies if this has been mentioned or posted before but 4 interesting programmes about the work of the Met Office on Channel 4..not sure when these were shown as didn't see them advertised. However you can see them on More 4 catch up..well worth watching.

I heard on the Radio 4 forecast early this morning that 48mm of rain fell at Kenley in Surrey during yesterdays storms.Does any know what time and over what time period this fell? Likewise 19.7°C here in Sussex following another a cool night. An overnight minimum of 1.2°C and a Grass Minimum of -1.3°C a light / moderate SE'ly breeze developed backing to a light NE'ly by evening. - forecast for the weekend is for temps to reach 23°C.
