WHAT IS COL?
COL stands for Climatological Observers Link, an organisation of people who are interested in the weather.
Its members are mainly amateur meteorologists, but many professionals and observers from schools, universities and research establishments also belong to COL.
Many members run weather stations and keep records, ranging from daily rainfall and temperatures (with averages maintained in log books) to numerous weather parameters at a few minute intervals using elaborate electronic equipment (with the data analysed in 20 different ways on computer). Even so, you don't need to keep records to be a member of COL.
COL has no age limits - members range from the teens to the quite senior, the current total being over 400. Most members reside within the United Kingdom, but a growing number of other countries are represented, ranging from European countries to as far afield as Australia.
